Wonder Dinner

Ever looked into the cupboard, knowing a hungry husband is coming home in less than 20 minutes, and have no idea what's for dinner? Yah, me too! I know we've only been married for 9 months, but I quickly learned that my go-to dinner of singleness (scrambled eggs when I couldn't think of anything else) was not the best offering for my wonderful new spouse.

Earlier this week, I went out for coffee with a friend who introduced me to a super-neat program. It's called E-Mealz, and they've dubbed themselves a "mental maid" to help out with dinners. It's super neat! Their goal is to give you a list of dinners for the week that are on a budget (usually composed of sale items), and then give you a shopping list itemized by which section of the store it's in! Brilliant! You can choose your store, your family size (they have 2 person menus, and family of 5 menus), and specialty menus (gluten free, portion control). And all this for less than $1.25/week! Heehee, and I found an online coupon (use the coupon "Dave") and got 2 weeks free. :)

What a wonderful idea! It's fun to have new ideas for inexpensive dinners, and it's also fun to save time by having my menu planned and saving time in the store with my shopping list itemized! Right now, I've picked the Walmart plan for 2, but I think I might switch to the Aldi's one (it's the cheapest, usually <$35/wk in groceries) or the Publix one (the sample recipes sound awesome!).

I wish I had found out about this earlier. This spring, we were on an especially tight budget, and it's nice now to have more things to rotate into the dinner menu beyond chili dogs. :) You can also give gift certificates, like to young couples or busy moms. Also, the creators have a passion for families having dinner together and for saving money. Yay!

I've been using the website southernsavers.com, which I love for finding the good deals of the week, and I'm excited to have another tool in my budgeting bag! Hope it blesses you too, and that you have a wonderful family dinner tonight! Gotta run, my e-mealz dinner is ready! :)

  1. I have no idea what to make for dinner either... I fed the kids hot chocolate, cheez-its and bananas for dinner (yeah, I know... lovely right) but Brian doesn't come home until (???) tonight so it's so hard to be motivated to eat something normal when everything is all wonky schedule wise. Thanks for the link! I am always looking for dinner help. Did you see my recipe section in my blog? When I do cook (and it turns out well) the recipe goes there!
